Troutprint etchings are handmade prints on paper that have been made from a zinc plate. First, the image is etched into the plate using various special hand tools. Then the plate is dipped in acid. This process creates the depth and character of the etching. Next, ink is rubbed onto the surface and into the etched design of the plate. The surface ink is wiped off and, finally, the plate is run through a press and printed onto a piece of dampened cotton paper under high pressure. The actual printed image is a reverse view of the original etched design. Because of the pressure required to “Pull” each print, the plate deteriorates over time and that’s why we limit each edition to only 100 prints
